The LEGENDARY… NEW SWING SEXTET!
Dance show by
MAJESTY in MOTION!
“Imagine a hot salsa band from the 1960s reuniting after a 25-year hiatus to discover an even greater, more global, fan base. “Rip Van Winkle couldn’t have had it better,” recalls co-bandleader George Rodriguez of the New Swing Sextet’s (NSS) recaptured infectious popularity. “No one is more surprised than we are,” says the vibist and original NSS member, “to be ‘Back on the Streets’.”
A product of New York City and the excitement and turbulence of the sixties, the New Swing Sextet made its professional debut performing in the Singer Bowl at the last New York Worlds Fair in 1965. The band has been a popular and innovative exponent of Latin jazz, salsa and pop music for over five decades.
With a long history of making music on the streets of Latin New York through harmonized vocals, piano, vibes, bass and Latin percussion, NSS recorded the last of 4 albums, all under the Cotique label, in 1970 and broke up in the late seventies. Today, the New Swing Sextet has celebrated its 50th Anniversary and is preparing to release it’s new “50 Years of Swing” CD early next year, following up its “Back on the Streets…a taste of Spanish Harlem Vol 2” which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009 by the Recording Academy, and “Yesterday Today & Tomorrow,” released in January 2013.
The band offers the classic Latin New York sound of another era, perfectly preserved and bottled for today’s global salsa enthusiasts. Recent performances to large audiences all over the North America, South America, Europe, Russia, Asia and the Middle East have proven that NSS is better than ever”
The New Swing Sextet features:
George Rodriguez on vibes and vocals, leader;
Angel Justiniano on vocals and conga drums and co-leader;
Harry Justiniano on bass and vocals;
Hector Ortiz on bongos and latin percussion;
Jimmy Figueroa on timbales and vocals;
Conal Fowkes on piano;
Orlando Ortiz on lead vocals.

About The Phoenix Salsa/Bachata Festival:
“The Phoenix Salsa/Bachata Festival is a three-day event created by Mambo Exquisite Dance and The Gewpa Boys Entertainment that cultivates, celebrates, and promotes Afro-Latin heritage, dance, and music. Our aim is to bring together the best in national and international talent to teach, inspire, entertain, and dance with the Phoenix Latin Dance Community and beyond
But setting is key…
This is why we have chosen one of Phoenix’s newest boutique hotels, The Camby, to host our event. From the modern décor, the unique furniture, and the authentic art on the walls to the unique menu and the crafted specialty drinks, you’ll not only enjoy the energy and quality of the event, but your innovative surroundings. After all, dance is art, and what better place to dance than The Camby itself! But, in the end, it’s all about the dancing! That’s why we will have three separate rooms, a salsa room, a bachata room, and kizouk room with live music on the first two nights of the event and the best DJs in town (and some special guests too)!
